Welcome to the web site of the Cape Town Amateur Radio Centre (CTARC). We serve radio amateurs in the Cape Town area and its environs.
We meet on the fourth Monday of every month at 20:00 at our clubhouse at the Round Table Community Centre in Chess Road, Rondebosch. Meetings generally consist of feedback from the Committee on matters affecting the club followed by a presentation of some aspect of amateur radio by a club member or invited guest speaker. This is followed by tea and biscuits and an opportunity for amateurs to chat face to face with each other. Visitors are always welcome. The club bulletin can be heard on the 145.750 MHz repeater each Sunday immediately following the SARL bulletin at 8:30 am. Our bulletin includes "swap shop" which provides an opportunity for amateurs to trade second-hand amateur radio equipment. Some excellent bargains can be had! The bulletins are relayed onto 3.700 MHz and 7.086 MHz (both lower sideband) for the benefit of listeners who do not have access to the repeater. We also publish a newsletter called Ragchew monthly for members. The newsletter is distributed electronically to those with email, and by post to members who do not have email. We participate in and contribute towards the Western Cape Repeater Working Group, an inter-club initiative that maintains the repeaters in the Western Cape. Together with their counterparts in the Eastern Cape, the Repeater Working Group has put together a most impressive network of linked repeaters which runs all the way to the Transkei. You can find more information about these repeaters on our repeaters page.
CTARC runs a training course for new radio amateurs twice a year. The courses usually start in February/March and July/August, with the examination being written in May and October respectively. If you would like to join a course then please email us. The club is run by a committee elected at the annual general meeting. You can find our constitution on the web site, as well as the minutes of the last AGM. |
